Distribution Overview
The species occurs in Peru and Colombia in South America, and in the Antilles, Cuba and the Dominican Republic. It is also found in Honduras and other parts of Central America. In Honduras the species grows on the north coast in very humid forests at altitudes of 330 to 2600 feet (100 to 800 m), particularly in the northern ridges of the Nombre de Dios range. It has also been reported to grow in the Atlantida region, and possibly in the Colon region. Frequency of occurrence in the forests of Honduras is reported as rare.
